About the 2020 BUSHfire data quest (7 - 14 August)

Can AI, primed with data from multiple satellites and local sensor networks, detect bushfires earlier, predict fire behaviour and help emergency services respond more effectively to protect homes, people and valuable natural capital?

More than a hack: a research sprint

How it works

In August 2020, we plan to run an inaugural Australasian interdisciplinary research sprint on the topic of Detecting and Responding to Bushfires.

Research will be focused on an intensive week long quest from 7-14 August, with on-ramp and off-ramp shoulder periods to create the greatest chance of success, and to finalize outcomes. The format will be entirely online, with researchers operating in a cloud-computing environment. Four teams, each consisting of 2x machine-learning specialists and 2x bushfire researchers will be supported by team leads who are the leading scientists in their fields, and by a network of faculty.
